Christmas is coming up fast raising the question of whether or not it is about family and giving or just gifts? Christmas seems to be less and less about the time you spend with your family and more about who can get the best presents.

The holiday season should be about what you are thankful for and how you can help others who are in need. Stores have huge deals so people can spend tons of money on presents for themselves and others, when they should just be happy about being alive and healthy.

Christmas is a religious holiday meant to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. However if you chose not to celebrate it in that way, still take the time to understand that it is a time to celebrate all that you have, all that you have accomplished in the year, and all that you survived. Take a moment to reflect on your goals in the coming new year. If you don’t get the exact pair of shoes you wanted, the newest iPhone, or a car be thankful about wall that you have.

Yes, Christmas is about giving and the expectation is that you give and get gifts, but remember that there are other intangible things you can give such as your appreciation, thankfulness, and being present. It is not that hard to appreciate the gifts people give to you, thank them for thinking of you, and be present when being with for friends and family.

It can mean a lot to your family to just put your phone down and hang out with your family. Older generations like your grandparents can feel cut off and on the outside when you are sucked to your phone texting, or tweeting.

Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year. From being with friends and family to going on winter adventure, the Christmas season is a time to be thankful for. This holiday season don’t just think about all that you want and expect to get, just be present and in the moment. Especially when Christmas is moving towards being all about who gets the best gifts.
