Marvel Comics has been a common name since 1961 when it was founded. It’s creativity and colorful pictures have been the inspiration behind the shows and movies of Marvel Studios. Without the comics, household names like Iron Man and Captain America wouldn’t exist. Although, there has been a noticeable decline in the sale of comics, and a rumor has been circulating that Marvel/Disney are planning to shut down Marvel Comics.

Since Disney bought out Marvel in 2009, they have the final say in whether the comic line stays or goes. According to Cosmic Book News, the rumor about Disney shutting down Marvel Comics came from a press release when the Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada, and Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski of Marvel Comics announced that they needed to convince Disney to keep publishing the comics and not shut them down.

The internet had mixed feelings about the possible shut down. Some felt that it would be better if the comics did shut down, because they are losing money every single year. Others felt that it was shameful for there even to be talk of a shut down since it is the founder’s, the late Stan Lee’s, legacy.

Quesada who participated in the panel, recently shot down the rumors, calling it the “conspiracy of the week”, and stating that people were reading to much into the panel.

Neither Disney nor Marvel has released an official statement, so until they do, there will be no way to know if the rumor is true or false.
