Recently, there has been a mysterious comment left on many online high school newspaper websites about gun safety and the “Notorious Nineteen” states that don’t have laws on guns on schools campuses. InFlight recently received this strange chain comment, and at first glance it appears that the comment is from a source that is untraceable.

After sending an email to John Jiler some pressing questions were answered, “The Committee for Scholastic Action on Guns is actually a coalition of parents who are increasingly concerned about safety on college campuses”, said Jiler. “ We simply don’t want kids (including our own!) going to schools in states that show no inclination to change their already inadequate gun laws”.

Jiler and the Committee for Scholastic Action on Guns have also left the same comment on Fishers High School in Indiana, Indian River High School in New York state, and Presque Isle High School in Maine. Two schools, Indian River High School and Fishers High School, wrote articles about the mysterious comment. Fishers was able to reach Jiler in an email to answer some questions. Indian River was not able to contact Jiler and was unable to receive any information on him or the committee.

Jiler thinks that it takes small actions to create change, “To us there is no more pressing issue in this country than common sense gun control. It takes a lot of small organizations like ours to stand up against the powerful and well-organized National Rifle Association”.

Fortunately, we can conclude that John Jiler is real, but there is still very little information readily available on him and the committee.
